All courses, which will be held in May, June and July, are free of charge and open to anyone interested.
The Cabildo de Fuerteventura, through the Department of Crafts, continues to promote craft activity on the island through the EnRedArte project. In collaboration with the Association of Creative Artisans of Fuerteventura and with the support of various neighbourhood associations, workshops will be held in different Fuerteventura municipalities in May, June and July, with the aim of preserving traditional techniques, promoting training and bringing craftsmanship closer to the public.
The Councillor for Crafts, Lolina Negrín, stresses that through this initiative the Cabildo seeks to preserve traditions between generations, offering new learning opportunities and creative development among the population. ‘We invite all citizens to actively participate in these activities and discover the value of handmade products,’ she says.
Workshop programme
In this edition, 280 hours of training will be given by craftsmen and craftswomen accredited in their trades, carried out in 14 workshops of 20 teaching hours covering subjects such as leatherwork, macramé and fashion.
Among these programmed activities is a workshop on macramé, as an introduction to patchwork, which will be held from 3 to 24 June at the Pájara Cultural Centre. The programme also includes several workshops for beginners in leatherwork in different parts of the island, such as Morro Jable, Valle de Santa Inés, Villaverde and Tefía.
As for macramé, the public will have the opportunity to explore this craft technique in different locations such as La Lajita, El Durazno, Tarajalejo and Los Estancos.
Courses on traditional Canarian costumes
The programme is completed with two courses dedicated to traditional Canarian costumes. One will take place at the Tetir Cultural Centre, from 4 June to 2 July. The other, at the Tuineje Cultural Centre, from 3 June to 1 July. In addition, a dressmaker’s workshop “Aprendiendo a Patternar” is being offered at the Casillas del Ángel Cultural Centre, until 30 June.
